How to Improve Memory With Memory Affirmation: You, Your Memory and Memory Affirmation

Would you like to improve your memory? It is suggested that memory affirmations help you do just that.

What is a memory affirmation? How can you affirm something that is in your memory?

The following website offers a list of “Thirty memory affirmations” that will help you understand this process.
The word affirmation is something everyone is familiar with, in one way or another. You will realize that you affirm things every day, whether conscious of doing so or not.

The freedictionary.com suggests an affirmation is “the act of affirming or the state of being affirmed; assertion” or “something declared to be true; a positive statement or judgment.”

The power inherent in memory affirmations has to do with the pro-active, positive thinking. If you remind yourself something is true, that positive thought comes to mind and reinforces it. The more you remind yourself of it, the easier it is to recall. In doing so, you improve your memory.

The easiest way to begin with memory affirmations is to start small. Think a happy thought, as that will elevate your mood. You will find that it is something you want to think about again. Drifting towards a negative or adverse thought, may make you not want to think about it ever again.

Once you have a happy thought you can affirm repeatedly, gradually expand that horizon of thought.

For example, consider this thought about friends.

“Old friends have returned to my life in positive ways with renewed friendship and deep affection.”

Begin to expand your list of friends and remind yourself how much you have loved them and they, you, over the years. If you start thinking about your friends rather than focusing on yourself and your possible memory loss or other problems, you will find that you are in a happier frame of mind.

If you prefer to focus on yourself and your memory, remind yourself that no one has perfect recall of everything; no one needs to have perfect recall. What you should be able to do is to recall what you need to know at any particular time. There are always important things you need to remember.

Do not stick to only one memory affirmation, as you may become fixated on it. In other words, you may begin to think of that particular memory affirmation and block out all others. Like many things in life, variety is the spice of life.
