Tips For Writing in a Troubled Economy: Suggestions For Baby Boomers and Seniors

Writing for a living is always a challenge for any writer, particularly baby boomers and seniors, but writing in a troubled economy can seem discouraging too, at times. Yet with a bit of ingenuity and hard work, writing for a living can prove to be an excellent, well paying occupation.

Regardless of your age, consider the following tips for thriving financially, as an Internet writer:

Write daily on the Internet.

If you are a freelance writer, writing content for the Internet daily will help to hone in your writing skills. Remember that as an Internet writer, even a beginner, you have a vast horizon of potential readers online. Most of your readership will be seeking knowledge, so write for them, avoiding spurious claims that may prove to be false, unreasonable or nonsense. Make certain that you document your sources correctly providing other Internet links where possible.

Write professional articles.

Articles written on a professional level are always in demand. If you have not obtained professional writing skills, there are online writing courses or writing skill courses at local colleges and universities. Individually, they are relatively inexpensive. Write pertinent, timely articles.

Because of the wide range of global economic woes, writing pertinent, timely articles is vital to your financial survival as a writer. Rehashing old, weather-beaten articles repeatedly, will not instill a lot of economic confidence in your readership. Observing current trends with potential, financial solutions would appear to more exciting and inviting to readers.

Write positive, constructive articles.

What readers are looking for is positive, constructive articles that offer them encouragement. Financial problems can appear overwhelming. Addressing their negative aspects may drive your readership deeper into their dilemma, while your writing could prove as refreshing as a glass of cool water in a hot, dry dessert.

Write articles that will help others.

Articles rooted and grounded in care, compassion and concern for others can help people in many, different ways. When you write, focus on others, rather than on yourself or the hopelessness and helplessness of others globally. Your readers may begin to do the same thing. Over time, they may extend care, compassion and concern further to include global humanitarian outreach. You do not know how far the influence of your work can extend.

Write in such a way that your readers receive a message of hope.

Even though you may feel your own personal, economic situation is hopeless, remember that you are a writer. You can write beyond your own personal situation. Conveying a message of hope is a matter of writing effective words and publishing them on the Internet. Remember that any article you write can convey a message of hope to someone, somewhere, around the world.

Know your potential writer’s market.

Because the economy appears to be in a current state of decline, it does not mean that there are not others who are searching for the kind of articles you enjoy writing. You may need to do research to tap into a more viable market than you have found to date. Knowing your potential market will help direct you in terms of what you could or should write to increase your income.

Create your own website.

Creating your own website and posting your articles there is one method of Internet advertising. It is relatively easy to market your own work, if you start with a personal blog. You may want to create your own domain when you see the direction your writing is heading. Setting up a viable network with other writers will help to encourage them to write. In other words, be a leader rather than a follower. Start your writer’s platform, if you have not already found your niche.

Find out what the current market demands.

Because there is an Internet market and it has continual demands of one kind or another, doing regular, ongoing research into the Internet writer’s market will prove beneficial to you. Learn current marketing skills.

Write for the market, not simply for your own creative enjoyment, although that can be fun and reveal that other side of your personality. Find out what other writers are writing in order to meet the law of supply and demand. Be aware that there is a viable Internet writer’s market regardless of what the global economy appears to be.

Post your articles in a timely fashion.

If you post your articles in a timely fashion, yours will be the first on the market. Address future, economic concerns in a timely manner, knowing that readers invariably want timeliness in terms of the context that they are reading. In other words, a year from now may be too late, so become proactive immediately.

You want financial success as a writer, so be prepared to work hard and you will thrive financially.
